From November 5-18, 2008, a group of young women from Botswana, Malawi, Namibia, South Africa, the U.S., Zambia & Zimbabwe will participate in a study seminar called 'Women Building Global Community: A Global Education and Advocacy Program'. Women Building Global Community: A Global Education and Advocacy Program
From November 5-18, 2008, a group of young women from Botswana, Malawi, Namibia, South Africa, the United States, Zambia & Zimbabwe will participate in a study seminar called 'Women Building Global Community: A Global Education and Advocacy Program'. This program is for and about women, jointly sponsored by the ELCA Global Mission Companion Synods Program and Women of the ELCA. Over the course of two weeks, participants will spend time in Johannesburg, Durban and Pietermaritzburg with young women from the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Southern Africa, the local community - in both urban and rural settings - focusing on common issues that affect the lives of young women in both the U.S. and southern Africa like the HIV/AIDS pandemic, the education of women and girls, the progress made in anti-racism and post-apartheid efforts as well as the impact of young women in business, government and the church.
This seminar will be transformative for all those involved and will help us better partner with women in our church and our companion synod churches and countries.
